JSON-LD Is the New Meta Description
Meta tags get you a snippet. JSON-LD gets you in the knowledge graph. Here is what to ship.
Meta descriptions tell Google what to put in a search snippet. JSON-LD tells Google, ChatGPT, Perplexity, and every other AI surface what your entity actually is. The difference is between describing yourself in 160 characters and giving the entire knowledge graph a structured definition.
The minimum schema set for a B2B company is: Organization (with founders, address, sameAs links to LinkedIn/Crunchbase), WebSite, WebPage with Speakable spec, FAQPage with the buyer questions you actually want to answer, Product or SoftwareApplication for the product, and Person markup for every leader. For founders and executives, add ProfilePage with knowsAbout, alumniOf, and worksFor.
The biggest unlock is sameAs. AI models triangulate identity confidence by checking whether the entity claims on your site match what is in LinkedIn, Crunchbase, GitHub, and other authoritative sources. The more verified sameAs links, the higher the entity confidence. The higher the confidence, the more often the model cites you.
Ship JSON-LD on every page that matters: homepage, product pages, leadership pages, customer stories. Validate with Google Rich Results Test and Schema.org validator. Then set a reminder to refresh quarterly. Most B2B sites have either no JSON-LD or stale JSON-LD. Just shipping it puts you ahead of 80 percent of competitors.
